What is Category 1 water damage?

Category 1 water originates from a sanitary source and does not pose a substantial risk from skin contact, ingestion, or inhalation. Common sources include broken water supply lines, overflowing sinks or tubs without contaminants, melting ice or snow, falling rainwater that has not contacted contaminants, and toilet tanks. What is Category 2 water damage?

What is Category 3 water damage?

How is Category 3 water damage restored?

Category 3 restoration prioritizes containment and removal. Technicians wear appropriate PPE, isolate affected areas, extract water, remove and discard contaminated porous materials such as carpet, pad, and saturated drywall and insulation, clean and treat remaining structural surfaces, dry the structure, and verify cleanliness and dryness before rebuilding.   1. Assess safety. Evaluate electrical, structural, and gas hazards. Determine who must stay out of the building.

  6. Clean and treat. Remaining non-porous and semi-porous surfaces, such as framing and concrete, are cleaned thoroughly. Antimicrobials may be applied according to label directions after cleaning, not as a substitute for it.
  7. Dry the structure. Air movement, dehumidification, and specialty drying bring framing and subfloors to drying goals.

  9. Rebuild. Only after verification should new insulation, drywall, and flooring go in.

What are the water damage classes?

Class 1: Least amount of water
